Texas Roadhouse History
The founder of Texas Roadhouse, W. Kent Taylor, grew up in Louisville and moved to Colorado to work in the hospitality industry. He dreamed of opening his own restaurant inspired by Colorado’s style and cuisine.
He sought the help of former Kentucky Governor John Y. Brown Jr. to make his dream come true, but the politician backed out and invested in another steak concept instead. They opened their first Texas Roadhouse location in Green Tea Mall in Clarksville Louisiana in 1993.
Taylor sold his previous restaurant and focused on growing Texas Roadhouse. It was not an easy journey, as some of the new stores failed to attract customers. He made some changes and hired a talented chef from Louisville, Jim Broyles, who became the Director of Food and Beverages and improved the quality and taste of Texas Roadhouse’s menu.
